Travel
This page highlights the three most memorable trips during my nearly 50 years of marriage to Rodger.
The first was to the SULTANATE OF OMAN. We went as the guest of Mohammed, whom we met when he was enrolled in a one year in Public Policy at Harvard University. In 2008 he invited us to come to Oman for three weeks to see his country and for Rodger to photograph our trip for a possible book.
Our tour guides were members of his family, and as the result we got an intimate and unique look at this beautiful county, located at the base of the Arabian Peninsula.

In 1989 and in 2012 we went to the HAWAIIAN ISLANDS, and. again we were the guests of close friends. Hawaii is a magical place, and like Oman is in sharp contrast to our life living in Belmont, MA.
Our first trip we were the guests of our friends Peter and Jeane on Oahu. We spent three weeks touring around Oahu, with a short visit to the Big Island to see lava flow plunging into the sea. Snorkeling in Haunama Bay was a highlight.
Our second trip was to Maui where we stayed with friends Suzanne and Craig. Then an island hop to Oahu to stay in Air B&B’s in Kaneohe and Waikiki.

The third major trip was to FRANCE in 2016. Its purpose was for my sister Diana and I to participate in the filming of the documentary about three heroes of WWI which included our grandfather, Major Edward B. Cole. We spent three days tracing his footsteps leading up to his engagement in the Battle of Belleau Wood. To view the documentary go to Ancestry on this site.
Unfortunately my husband Rodger was unable to go because of a recent surgery. Diana, Mark and I stayed in a wonderful apartment Air B&B in Paris right near the Luxembourg Gardens. For several days before and after the filming we explored museums, took an evening cruise on the Seine, and ate many wonderful meals. Only in France can you find a real croissant!
The Luxembourg Gardens provided needed rest and relaxation, as well as a look at Parisians at leisure. Click on any image to start slide show.
